The Most Versatile Item In Your Closet

Dress it up, dress it down, wear it with jeans or pants, a dress, skirt or anything in between- the black blazer is the workhorse of your wardrobe and the one piece that you will reach for time and time again.  It polishes any look, and for me is the one piece that epitomizes ageless style.

Admittedly, I am a bit blazer-obsessed—if you look closely you’ll notice that there are four different versions in the photos.  And while there are a variety of colors in my closet, there is just something about a black blazer that feels refined and sophisticated, even when worn casually worn a t-shirt and jeans (one of my go to everyday looks).   You can easily change up the vibe with different cuts and fabrics, and there are great styles available at every price point, although I recommend investing in a high-quality, classic piece that will translate season after season, year after year.  One of my favorite brands is Veronica Beard, and while on the pricier side, the quality is amazing and you can find great sales or visit a resale site like the Real Real, which has a great selection (and is easier on the wallet and the environment!).

I think that as we evolve as women, so too should our style evolve.  I’m not saying there are any hard and fast rules- you should absolutely wear what makes you feel good- but I do think it’s important to be mindful that what looked great at 30 might not look quite as right at 50.  You know that feeling- you try on that once-perfect dress years later, and something just seems off.  And if you carry that “off” feeling into your day, it can make you feel uncomfortable in your own skin, and seriously mess with your confidence. With everything else that requires our attention in the course of a day, we don’t need any unnecessary distractions!  It’s difficult to radiate good energy and confidence if you are not genuinely feeling it, and what you wear has a very big impact on how you feel.

Which brings me back to the black blazer.  Even on days when you are not feeling super creative with your wardrobe, you can pull your look together with this one easy piece.  It can elevate a simple blouse or tee shirt with pants or jeans, add and element of texture (think tweed or velvet), top off a chic monochromatic look, and in terms of practicality, it can add a layer of warmth in cool weather or relentless air conditioning.  The possibilities are many!  It’s effortless style at its best, and is one of the few items I think can be described as truly ageless.  And at least for me, black will always be the new black…
