Another Tuesday, another #tuesdaytopic! If you’re following along here, you know that every Tuesday we feature an inspiring women who has blossomed in midlife and achieved great things in the second half! Today we are talking about the brilliant writer Toni Morrison.

Toni Morrison was a 40-year old single mom when she published her first novel, The Bluest Eye, a book she managed to write while working full-time as a book editor and raising her two young sons alone. She said that it was the book she wanted to read that did not exist. With it, she set off on an incredible path that included 11 novels in all, winning a Pulitzer and a Nobel for literature, among many other accolades.

Her impact on the literary world can not be overstated; not only did she write important, beautiful novels exploring black identity, but she also introduced the world to several other important black writers during her time as an editor.

On aging, she had this to say: “Some people just close when they get old, but if you’re open, if you have been, you can rely on the lived wisdom... It’s not the book learning, it’s the lived wisdom. I ask friends of mine, ‘How old are you, inside?,’ and they always know. I know that I am 23. There’s a moment when you just arrive.”

Wishing you a beautiful Tuesday, and remember, it’s never too late...❤️
